Ideology

“The increasing power of the state and the declining power of institutions intended to control it has been in the making for some time. The party system is a notorious example. The Republicans have emerged as a unique phenomenon in American history of a fervently doctrinal party, zealous, ruthless, antidemocratic and boasting a near majority. As Republicans have become more ideologically intolerant, the Democrats have shrugged off the liberal label and their critical reform-minded constituencies to embrace centrism and footnote the end of ideology. In ceasing to be a genuine opposition party the Democrats have smoothed the road to power of a party more than eager to use it to promote empire abroad and corporate power at home. Bear in mind that a ruthless, ideologically driven party with a mass base was a crucial element in all of the twentieth-century regimes seeking total power. Representative institutions no longer represent voters. Instead, they have been short-circuited, steadily corrupted by an institutionalized system of bribery that renders them responsive to powerful interest groups whose constituencies are the major corporations and wealthiest Americans.”

According to the article “Inverted Totalitarianism” written by Sheldon Wolin stating recent ideas about the USA government. I totally like and agree with what he stated about how the government is running now a days. Basically now government is being feed by the interest groups which is driving the law systems to focus on the rich people; to benefit the rich.

Both Republican and Democrat Party are finding ways to gain more power not really focusing on how to make the country better instead corrupting the system. The states power is increasing and The Supreme Court cares less of citizens. This is not normal. Someone should do something about it.

Interest Groups

“There are many powerful and well- financed lobbies with mass support in existence now, but these lobbying organizations do not get that support because of their legislative achievements. The most powerful lobbying organizations now obtain their funds and their following for other reasons, as later parts of this study will show. Some critics may argue that the rational person will, indeed, support a large organization, like a lobbying organization, that works in his interest, because he knows that if he does not, others will not do so either, and then the organization will fail, and he will be without the benefit that the organization could have provided. This argument shows the need for the analogy with the perfectly competitive market. For it would be quite as reasonable to argue that prices will never fall below the levels a monopoly would have charged in a perfectly competitive market, because if one firm increased its out- put, other firms would also, and the price would fall; but each firm could foresee this, so it would not start a chain of price-destroying increases in output. In fact, it does not work out this way in a competitive market; nor in a large organization. When the number of firms involved is large, no one will notice the effect on price if one firm increases its output, and so no one will change his plans because of it. Similarly, in a large organization, the loss of one dues payer will not noticeably increase the burden for any other one dues payer, and so a rational person would not believe that if he were to withdraw from an organization he would drive others to do so. The foregoing argument must at the least have some relevance to economic organizations that are mainly means through which individuals attempt to obtain the same things they obtain through their activities in the market. Labor unions, for example, are organizations through which workers strive to get the same things they get with their individual efforts in the market-higher wages, better working conditions, and the like.”

According to Mancur Olson’s book “ The Logic of collective action public goods and the Theory of groups” stated in the quote that people choose lobbying or get involve in unfair market for their own benefit. I agree with them government organizations will do anything to protect their benefits. After all, the world is about survival of the fittest. That makes us no different from Animals, and our so-called “humanity” really exists on the borderlines not within us.

People are selfish because we don’t share same mentality, we are out for what we want and don’t think of others. Leaders are suppose to do the right things for everyone their leading instead they seek for what they can gain for themselves. Even if there is one person who wants to do the right things, there is not enough support for them.  So it would be nice if good doing people actually spoke up enough to make positive changes in this world.

The Judiciary

“The Court held that, in regard to abortions during the first trimester, the decision must be left to the judgment of the pregnant woman’s doctor. In regard to second trimester pregnancies, states may promote their interests in the mother’s health by regulating abortion procedures related to the health of the mother. Regarding third trimester pregnancies, states may promote their interests in the potentiality of human life by regulating or even prohibiting abortion, except when necessary to preserve the life or health of the mother.
The Supreme Court held that litigation involving pregnancy, which is “capable of repetition, yet evading review,” is an exception to the general rule that an actual controversy must exist at each stage of judicial review, and not merely when the action is initiated.”

This was very interesting because of the way state law and Amendment overlapped. According to the “Roe v. Wade – Case Brief Summary” The Supreme Court handled the Texas abortion law pretty well.

It is true conferring to the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution protect the right to privacy, so abortion should be a private personal option but with limitation that abortion on 1 and 2 trimesters is okay but 3rd trimester is not okay then it becomes a murder. During 3rd trimester a fetus is fully developed as a human being, a person, morally it is not right to have abortion during at the end stage of pregnancy.

The presidency

“Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world. Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

These are the words spoken by John F. Kennedy that really touched my heart especially because he spoke about how success happens through hardships and every individual in our nation should be aware of that. Even when the economy is not good it is in the process of changing to good if everyone works hard together.

Following laws, rules and regulations is part of the hardships, if everyone in the nation works together for safety and for liberty, our nation we will make USA a better country for everyone. We all from government to common people should respect our country and work hard toward better for everyone.
